Product Description
Luckey's Constant-Speed Compression MVR or Heat Pump Evaporative Crystallization System - cuts steam consumption in evaporation and crystallization by over 80%.
Your Evaporator Is "Eating" Steam - Quietly, Expensively
In lysine plants, MSG plants, glucose plants, vitamin plants, yeast plants - wherever evaporative crystallization is used to concentrate products, steam consumption is always the biggest cost.
Five-effect evaporators, four-effect evaporators - tons of steam are burned in, water is evaporated out, crystals are left behind.
But have you ever calculated how much of your profit this old equipment burns away every year?
Our clients did the math - steam consumption in the evaporation/crystallization section accounts for over 50% of total plant steam usage, with most plants reaching 60% or even higher.
Traditional multi-effect evaporation: live steam is fed in, effect after effect - steam goes in, condensate comes out, heat drops stage by stage, and the final effect steam is vented. It's like using high-pressure steam to boil water - a huge amount of heat is simply carried away by cooling water.
Luckey's constant-speed compression MVR or heat pump evaporative crystallization system compresses and raises the temperature of the secondary vapor, and returns it to the heating chamber as a heat source:
- The compressor compresses low-temperature secondary vapor and returns it to the heating chamber
- Evaporated vapor → compressed → reheats evaporation → cycle continues
- Live steam is needed only in small amounts at startup; after normal operation, almost no additional steam is required
- The constant-speed compressor can start and stop frequently, is extremely easy to maintain, and has a long service life
Our principle is: choose MVR or heat pump according to the specific operating conditions - we never lock ourselves into a single technology path. Because different evaporation modes, different materials, and different temperature ranges call for different solutions. The client should not be confined to one fixed technology - our job is to give them the best option for their specific line.
And whether we use MVR or heat pump, we always use constant-speed compressors.
The high-speed compressors commonly used in the industry today suffer from declining maintainability over time. If maintenance is not kept up, the probability of breakdowns increases significantly. Constant-speed compressors are far simpler in structure, with electric start-up that is very convenient, minimal maintenance requirements - routine upkeep can be performed by the plant's own staff. A little over 100 kWh of electricity can deliver substantial steam savings. Proven by track record: Baolingbao, Lingyunhai, Xingguang.
One system - virtually zeroes your evaporation steam bill.
1. Four Key Advantages (Core Highlights)
| Application Scenario | Why Constant-Speed Compression MVR/Heat Pump is Better |
| Batch crystallization | Constant-speed compressor can start/stop frequently with no ramp-up delay; simple maintenance, ideal for periodic production |
| High-concentration, high-boiling-point-elevation materials | Stronger adaptability to high boiling point rise; handles higher temperature lifts and pressure ratios without extra boosting |
| Heat-sensitive materials (low-temperature evaporation) | Operates at low temperatures to protect product quality; handles the large volumetric flow of low-temperature secondary vapor with ease |
| Low-solubility materials (10-30g/100g water) | Achieves high crystallization yield (crystals as % of total solids) and high specific productivity (crystal weight per unit volume of slurry) - improving downstream centrifugal separation and reducing overall crystallization energy consumption |
Some products are not suitable for high-temperature crystallization. If MVR mode is used, the volumetric flow of low-temperature secondary vapor becomes very large - precisely where the constant-speed compressor excels. Furthermore, such products require both steam heating and chilled water cooling (e.g., crystalline fructose). MVR compresses the low-temperature tail gas to high temperature for recovery - saving energy on both the steam and chilled water sides, effectively doubling the energy-saving benefit.
2. Simple Comparison:
Multi-Effect Evaporation vs. Constant-Speed Compression MVR/Heat Pump Evaporative Crystallization System
| Comparison | Multi-Effect Evaporation | Constant-Speed Compression MVR/Heat Pump |
| Live steam consumption | 0.3-0.5 tons steam per ton water evaporated (five-effect) | Almost zero after startup |
| Steam cost per ton product | High | Only power cost (approx. 1/5-1/3 of steam cost) |
| Operational stability | Affected by final-effect vacuum fluctuations | Closed-loop, stable operation |
| Applicability | Limited by boiling point rise | Handles higher boiling point rise with ease |
| Maintenance | Multi-stage equipment, complex maintenance | Constant-speed compressor, simple structure, minimal maintenance |
| Industry | Typical Products |
| Fermentation/Amino acids | Lysine, monosodium glutamate (MSG), threonine, tryptophan, etc. |
| Starch sugar | Glucose syrup, maltose syrup, fructose, sorbitol, mannitol, etc. |
| Yeast | Yeast extract concentration, yeast powder |
| Pharmaceutical | Vitamin C, vitamin B12, antibiotic intermediates |
| Organic acids | Citric acid, lactic acid, xanthan gum, etc. |
| Polyols/Sugar alcohols | Xylitol, erythritol, arabinose, and other low-solubility materials |
Schematic of the Constant-Speed Compression MVR or Heat Pump Evaporative Crystallization System:
Evaporation crystallizer → Low-temperature secondary vapor → Constant-speed compression MVR/heat pump → Compressed and heated → Returned to heating chamber as heat source
↓ Secondary vapor condensate discharged ↑
Live steam is needed only in small amounts at startup → After normal operation, the system circulates internally - almost no live steam consumption
Constant-speed compressor features: Frequent start/stop capability, simple maintenance, ideal for batch production - adaptable to low-temperature, high-concentration, and heat-sensitive conditions.
5. Why Choose Luckey
- Proven, not theoretical - validated by multiple projects in amino acid, starch sugar, and vitamin production
- Unique constant-speed compressor design - specifically developed for frequent start/stop, high-boiling-point-rise, and heat-sensitive evaporative crystallization scenarios - far beyond the limitations of conventional MVR compressors that can only handle simple operating conditions
- Cuts steam consumption by 80%+ - dramatic reduction in evaporation/crystallization steam usage
- Significantly improves crystallization yield and specific productivity - especially for low-solubility materials; downstream centrifugal separation efficiency is notably enhanced
- Minimal maintenance - constant-speed compressor has a simple structure; routine maintenance can be performed by in-house plant staff without the need for specialized technicians
we can provide an MVR/heat pump evaporative crystallization retrofit feasibility assessment based on your material characteristics, existing evaporation equipment, and production capacity. Whether for new projects or old-line retrofits, please feel free to contact us.
