Meiling, former Hefei Second Light Industrial Machinery Factory, first entered the home appliance industry with refrigerators in 1984, and assumed the name of Hefei Refrigerator Factory.

Nowadays Meiling is a huge, important state-owned enterprise that combines the management mode of private capital, foreign investment and conventional state-owned structure. The group features diversified activities including electronic home appliances, processing and import-export of appliance components, plastics, paper production, copper products, trading, hotels, food manufacture, and R&D of new material. The corporation's headquarters is located in Hefei, Anhui.

In 1993 Meiling was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and Meiling Holding Limited is the only company who is the ten best listed in the Shenzhen stock market that is active in the refrigerator industry.

The Group's principal activities are the research, manufacture, sale and service of household refrigerators chest freezer and deep freezer, auxiliary parts and other home electronics products. Other activities include the development, manufacture and sale of cryogenic refrigerators. Washing machines and air conditioners are the Group's other household products. Approximately 90% of the Group's sales are made in China.

Meiling's main products, refrigerators, have a national market share of 16.9%, and are rated as No. 2 in China Half of refrigerators and parts produced are exported to Europe, America, Asia and Africa. Geared to Chinese dietary habit, Meiling first launched '181' refrigerators that feature a large freezing compartment, and won consumers' great popularity. Consequently, Meiling's rank leaped to the fourth place from the 20th in the national refrigerator industry, and thus established its status as China's famous brand from then onward.

Hefei Meiling Group later launched the first freshness-retaining (preservation) refrigerators in China and even in the world in Sep, 1997, and consequently resulted in an upsurge in sales and consumers' unprecedented enthusiasm for them.

Meiling has a factory area of 620, 000 square metres, about 7, 000 employees and possesses 15 manufacturers and some trading and R & D divisions. The Meiling Group's gross assets have reached RMB 3.2 billion with annual productivity that has passed in a few years from of 1.6 million refrigerators, 200, 000 washing machines, 500, 000 computerised water heaters. One million VCD sets, 500 thousand computerized water heaters, 40 thousand tons of P. V. C material, 2 million meters of high heat defence electricity wires, 500 thousand sets of foldable metal iron board, 40 million square meters of packaging materials and 4 thousand tons of copper products, to annual manufacturing capacity of 3.5 million refrigerators, 500 thousand freezers, 1.2 million washing machines, 1.5 million VCD sets, 1 million computerized water heaters, 50 thousand tons of copper products, 50 thousand tons of plastic product and 60 million square meter paper production, 350 thousand solar water heaters, more than 500 kitchen & toilet appliances. A new factory in the Hefei development area, which occupies 1 sq. Km will raise refrigerators production capacity up to 4 million units annually.

Meiling products carry CCEE, UL, GS, CE, ET, and EMC international Safety and quality certificates. In November 1995 the Meiling group became a world class Supplier after gaining ISO9001 certification issued by DNV of Norway. In April 1997 Meiling contributed to environmental protection by obtaining ISO14001 certification.
